Formed in Buffalo, New York, the band released their first, self-titled album, in 1987, which was picked up in 1988 by Celluloid Records, a bigger record company than their previous, and played regularly on the underground Buffalo scene, opening for punk bands. Their third release, “Hold Me Up,” was eclectic, with elements of pop rock, punk and heavy metal, their fourth, “Superstar Car Wash,” started to catch the media's attention, and their fifth, “A Boy Named Goo,” became massively successful, earning double-platinum status. Following that, they wrote “Iris” for the “City of Angels,” soundtrack, a song which shot the band to superstar status, spending 18 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay charts, 4 at number 1 on the Billboard Pop Songs Chart, and was nominated for an incredible 3 Grammys!! The album it was included upon, “Dizzy Up The Girl,” was certified platinum, and saw a stream of top ten hits including “Slide,” “Broadway,” “Dizzy,” and “Black Ballloon.”
